About the Ilfracombe Male Voice Choir
Ilfracombe Male Voice Choir was formed in 1984 and was the idea of Howard Hughes and Margaret Vaughan, who became the first musical director.
The choir has held numerous concerts raising money for charity over the many years, visiting different countries and singing in Germany, America and Australia.
Many choirs have visited Ilfracombe from various towns across England such as Birmingham and Reading, from different parts of Wales and Cornwall, and from as far a field as Germany and Sidney, Australia.
Ilfracombe Male Voice Choir has also had the opportunity to sing with the World Choir at Cardiff Arms Park on two occasions: first with Tom Jones, secondly with Shirley Bassey.
Jan Cross, our musical director, joined in 1991 and the choir has gone from strength to strength under her guidance.
The IMVC badge is formed from the crest of H.M.S. Ilfracombe, a World War Two minesweeper. The lantern is taken from Lantern Hill, a lighthouse overlooking Ilfracombe Harbour, and is encased in a rope ring minus the stern and masts crown used by the Royal Navy.
